Machining

Rough or finish, to the drawing, with the tolerance on the dimensions that decide fit and preload.

OperationToleranceUsed when
Rough machining2–5 mm per side leftPart goes to the customer’s finish shop
Finish machining±0.01 mm on critical dimensionsPart goes to assembly or NDT

Why the drawing governs

A forging is not a catalogue part. The dimensions that matter are the ones the drawing marks, and machining is planned around those rather than around a nominal size. Where a dimension is not marked, it is still held — but the critical ones are what the inspection report is built on.
